First 15 minutes of a similar film-Fight Club

First 15 minutes of a similar film-Fight Club

Fight club isn't the most direct film to compare to ours but it can be in some aspects. both sharing the idea of an presence (Rose in our film Tyler Durden in Fight Club) influencing the main characters action, driving them to things they wouldn't normally do, both Nick and Jack (From Our Film and Fight club respectively) having these people appear and influence them during a depression in their lives. albeit for different reasons and the two presences being different in nature Tyler Durden being a delusion of skitzophernia in Jack, Rose being a spirit. Both Nick and Jack wanting to rid themselves of their entities. Using the first 15 minutes of fight club is difficult, but the main focus club is Tyler Durden and Jack's relationship there may be things to be taken about how to characters with a simillar relationship to Nick and Rose's and applied.

The film starts off with the opening credits moving through with the camera as it goes through what appears to be brain synapses, which eludes to the twist at the end of Tyler Durden being a delusion of Jack's but also ties in the importance of Jack's mental issues, his insomnia and depression. The music playing through this scene is a fast paced rock track, eluding to the action nature that the film has. The scene ending as the camera pulls back along the sight of a gun, aimed down Jack's mouth. Showing us a conflict of an at this point unseen gunman and Jack. The first line of the film being narrated by our main character, Jack "People always ask, how did i know Tyler Durden?" The narrator telling us about how it feels to have a loaded gun in your mouth, and giving some of the plot for the ending, saying "...for a minute i almost forgot about Tyler's controlled explosion plan and thought about just how clean that gun was" then following it up with more detailed exposition on the plan named "Project Mayhem". This scene ends with a close up of Jacks face as he tells us this all started with a woman named Marla Singer, the scene cutting to a flashback, beginning with Jacks face being pulled between a man named Bob's boobs.

This new scene starts with the camera cutting to a sign that says "Remaining Men Together" the narration of Tyler telling us that this is a support group for men with testicular cancer. After a small bit of exposition about the group and the man bob, Jack starts his naration over, talking about how this all started. the scene suddenly cutting to him awake in bed. explaining for the past 6 months he had insomnia, and how it effected his life, and his feelings on the corporate world as a whole, which eludes to the reason his alter ego of Tyler Durden has this hate of it later on.
As Jack narrates the film shows us a panning camera going around his room, showing a series of items appearing into shot with super imposed text by them on what's supposed to be their catalog descriptions and price, this is accompanied by more of Jacks feelings on the world.

The next scene being a conversation between a doctor and jack, Jack wanting help for his insomnia explaining he nods off and wakes up in strange places, no idea how he got there. The doctor saying he just needs to have a healthy lifestyle, after Jack says he's in pain the doctor saying if he wants to see real pain, go to the testicular cancer group. Jack does this, and is where he meets bob, and the first flashback brought us in, Bob sharing his story, then saying Jack can cry now, and he does. this release is what helped him, and overall fixed his insomnia, this speaking about Jacks character, this being the "healthy lifestyle" the doctor recomneded, going to these support groups for illness and disease and crying. The scene progresses through showing Jack in a variety of support sessions, playing calming music.

The next scene starts from the testicular cancer group, Jack hugging bob, the scene cuts to an open door, clicking womens shoes heard as a womans shadow apporaces, (This woman being Marla Singer) she enters the room wanting to go into the group and the narration says "Then she ruined everything" he says that now Marla has arrived doing the same thing he does, going from support group to support group faking the illnesses, and this brings back his insomnia and his issues again.
he confronts Marla at a support group for meditation healing during the part of the session where they're supposed to hug and cry, they both discuss why they do this, Jack calling her a "Tourist" and they both agree they be tourists because at these sessions "...people listen, rather than just waiting for their turn to talk."

These are the first 15 minutes of fight club, they don't relate to the plot at all past character building for Jack, building on his viewpoints in life, the corporate world, giving a view point into his life as a manic depressive and insomniac. The character of Tyler Durden doesn't appear until around 20 to 25 minutes in but as we find out at the end Tyler and Jack are the same person, this insight on Jack give us a view on why Jack would have an alter ego like Tyler Durden.
